Grab a Cypriot coffee. Let’s talk about circular solutions
On the 6th June 2024, in the context of the World Environment Day, the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (Cyprus office), organized an online dialogue entitled “Grab a Cypriot Coffee: let’s talk about trash”, with the main guest Mrs.Anthi Charalambous, Director of ideopsis Ltd and founder of KyklOIKOdromio.
The webinar focused on the rational management of solid waste, presenting the best practices that can be adopted by local authorities to effectively reduce and reuse waste. Emphasis was placed on the implementation of the “pay as you throw” system, which encourages citizens to reduce their waste by charging based on the amount they throw, thus encouraging separation at source and responsible waste management.
In addition, the workshop highlighted the need to further promote the circular economy, highlighting the benefits of repair, reuse and recycling of materials to reduce the environmental footprint and enhance sustainable development. Participants agreed that local authorities should strengthen their efforts in this direction by promoting policies and initiatives that support the circular economy and environmental awareness among citizens.
