ideopsis at the ICC Final Conference

ideopsis, as the Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) Local Officer of Strovolos Municipality, participated in the ICC Final Conference, held on March 5-6, 2025, in Brussels. This event marked the climax of the ICC 2022-2025 edition, bringing together over 250 city representatives, business leaders, urban transition experts, and representatives from the European Commission.

Strovolos Municipality’s Role in ICC

Under the ICC framework, Strovolos Municipality developed two Local Green Deals:

  • Facilitating Energy Communities – This initiative promotes the creation of an online platform for energy communities. ideopsis is one of the main partners in this initiative.
  • Crafting Change: Empowering Women Through Sustainable Handicrafts – A project dedicated to supporting women by fostering sustainable handicraft practices while promoting circular economy principles.

Strovolos Municipality’s commitment to sustainability and social inclusion was recognized at the ICC, where the Crafting Change initiative received an award at the Final Conference.

Focus of Discussions

Discussions at the conference centred on showcasing Local Green Deals, where cities presented their progress, outcomes, and best practices. Sessions emphasized the role of businesses in supporting sustainable urban transformations through public-private collaboration. Experts explored strategies to scale up Local Green Deals across European cities, aiming to drive economic resilience and climate neutrality. Additionally, the event contributed to shaping future EU policies by highlighting the role of city-business collaboration in sustainability and competitiveness.

Key Outcomes

The second day of the conference featured the Mayors–Business Forum, which included high-level roundtable discussions on Local Green and Industrial Deals and their role in boosting the supply and demand of cleantech in Europe. The forum emphasized the importance of:

  • Enhancing local-industrial collaboration to drive innovation and economic growth.
  • Expanding public-private partnerships to implement impactful Local Green Deals.
  • Investing in skills development to equip citizens and businesses for the green and digital transitions.
  • Modernizing public procurement to prioritize sustainable and socially responsible solutions.
